Eight is enough: Nintendo Direct reveals 8-player Smash

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to throw a party, this is it: According to today’s Nintendo Direct, Super Smash Bros. Wii U will feature an 8-player Smash mode. Battling with eight players at once takes up quite a bit of space, so only certain stages are big enough to accommodate that many fighters. One of those arenas is the classic Hyrule Temple. Eight-player Smash is a special mode in the game that’s not supported online, so call up seven of your favorite (or least favorite) people and have a Smash-off!

You can watch the entire Nintendo Direct, narrated by the game’s incredibly entertaining announcer, below. Or if you want to head straight to the melee, 8-player Smash begins around the 2:15 mark.
