Koei Tecmo announced on its socials Friday that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is back on the docket as a nominee for the Japan Game Awards 2026, this time for the “Annual Works” category. Last year, Age of Imprisonment took home an award in the Future Division category which is for games that were not released yet at the time. The public plays a major role in voting for nominated and winning games, and at the time of this writing, some of the nominations aren’t decided yet for 2026 at this stage since voting has only recently begun. With this in mind, the fact that Age of Imprisonment is already declared nominated is a pretty big deal. The game is immensely popular in Japan and has sold over one million copies worldwide thus far, which is roughly on par with its other successful cousin Age of Calamity. Many Zelda fans have enjoyed experiencing this epic account of the Imprisoning War. Still on the fence? If you haven’t played yet, you can read our review of Age of Imprisonment here. And if you don’t have a Switch 2, it might be a good time to get one sooner than later before prices go up in the fall this year.
All voting for the awards is currently being conducted in Japan and continues until July 17, 2025. If you live in Japan, you can cast your vote here. The winners of Japan Game Awards 2026 will be decided on September, 2026.
