Skyward Sword vs. Skyrim again, both lose

If you’ve been a Zelda Universe regular for a while, you may remember that back in December there was a bit of controversy over a joke news post that appeared on the site while G4TV’s 2011 Game of the Year Deathmatch was ongoing. Skyward Sword came up against Skyrim, and the match was almost neck-and-neck…

Chasing Zelda, creating empathy

The series is named after her, but Zelda is often little more than the name of a damsel in distress who needs to be rescued. In some games, she’s more of an idea than a character and we learn little of her story or her personality. It’s no wonder that from time to time people…

The complete Hyrule Historia

Ever since Hyrule Historia was released in December, we’ve seen plenty of the content that’s available in the book, from the Zelda timeline to scans of artwork. Now you will be able to view the entire book online. One dedicated fan painstakingly unglued the book from its binding and then started scanning every single page. These…

Hyrule Historia reveals new, unused concept art

Hyrule Historia is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s revealed some amazing concept artwork including alternate designs for Tetra and Zelda in The Wind Waker, Ganon concepts, an unused Sheik concept meant for Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword characters… and there’s even a shirtless Tingle. Okay, maybe I wouldn’t quite call that one a gift. View the…

Highlights of 2011

2011 was a wonderful year to be a Zelda fan. With the series celebrating its 25th anniversary along with two major game releases, Nintendo pulled out all the stops to ensure that its fans would be left feeling overloaded with goodies. Here are my favorite highlights from 2011.

The Legend of Zelda and Theology

Who remembers The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy, a book that was released back in 2008? It was a compilation of essays by different authors who examined philosophy and the way that it related to the Legend of Zelda series. Another book has recently come along in a similar vein. Unrelated to the philosophy book,…

Zeldathon for Child’s Play

As of 4pm today (that’s 4pm on December 29, US Eastern Standard Time) the Zeldathon team will embark on their sixth major gaming marathon and this one promises to be their most epic. Over the next seven days, the team will play every single Zelda game ever made. They’ll even be adding extra challenges to…

Mike’s very Zelda Christmas

How many of you received Skyward Sword for Christmas? Ocarina of Time 3D, or even the limited edition Zelda 3DS? One man known as Mike didn’t get any of these, but he did score some Zelda treasure. And not only that, he got a Zelda adventure for Christmas. You can read his story after the jump.

Christmas in Hyrule

I’d like to take this chance to wish all you Zelda fans a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays and all the best for 2012. Oh, and to share with you this Zelda Christmas comic from Dorkly.

Skyward Sword Has Best Game Music of 2011

Skyward Sword was Zelda’s first leap into an orchestrated soundtrack, and I’m positive that many of us who have played the game by now have been impressed by its music. The sheer size of the score is impressive, with one rip listing 241 tracks, and among those there are many standouts. The game goes above…

Initial Skyward Sword Impressions

After playing through the first part of Skyward Sword, I thought I’d share some of my initial impressions. I have just returned from being on holiday, which means that I’m likely quite far behind in the game than most of you who are reading this. Therefore I feel the need to add a disclaimer and…

Zelda vs. Batman

A lot of Zelda fans have been contacting us outraged at the fact that Batman’s beating Zelda. No, this isn’t some sort of new fighting game but G4TV’s Deathmatch for the best video game of 2011. Round 1 saw The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword take out Uncharted 3, and it easily toppled FIFA 12…
