Best Buy has canceled a slew of Majora’s Mask 3DS XL pre-orders due to lack of supply.  Earlier in the week, Best Buy had canceled orders with more than one order for Nintendo’s limited edition New 3DS XL, hoping to quell their supply problems. Obviously this was not enough. They then went ahead and have canceled a number of orders, regardless of whether they contained one order or not. To say the least, this has not left customers happy.

Here is the email that Best Buy has sent out to customers.

“We’re sorry but there is an issue with your pre-order. The popularity of Nintendo 3DS XL Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask Limited Edition Gold/Black exceeded the quantities made available to Best Buy. As a result, we are unable to fulfill all of the pre-orders received. We regret that your particular order has been canceled and we know that this is disappointing. We want to make it up to you by offering a $50 discount that may be used towards the purchase of one of these alternate options, or other products on”

As explained in the email, Best Buy has offered a $50 credit on any product available on their website to those affected by the canceled order.

While this news is highly disappointing, hopefully retailers have the system in-store upon release so Zelda fans can have another chance to purchase this much-coveted system!

So mad… but hey, $50 off is pretty good, i guess i’ll just get the new black color and put a nice decal on. But no matter what, i HATE all those scalpers, just make money the fair way, like everybody else. :/

So basically Best Buy is giving Majora’s Mask for free.

If you make the mistake of believing that Best Buy will actually honor their pre-orders after getting screwed over on this….

Everyone is blaming scalpers but I really just think NoA is just doesn’t pay enough attention to the fans and doesn’t supply enough products for the demand. This isn’t the first time this has happened recently what with the whole scarf from Hyrule warriors only being sold at the New York store. I really wish they would follow in Nintendo of Europe and Japans footsteps and provide geek merchandise in larger quantities and bring things over from Japan more. I don’t understand why Japan is the only place that get’s many of the coolest items and games. I mean project rainfall practically had to beg them for Xenoblade and last story and I don’t think Pandora tower ever came over. It really kinda sucks. I just think that a little more consideration would be put into things like this. I mean if it really was scalpers the problem would have been fixed the first time.

My qualms exactly. This is no ”retailers” fault. Nintendo is harshly limiting each retailer. Best Buy had no idea that they were getting the very limited amount they were until recently. Nintendo is the one cutting supply off at the knee. They don’t make as much of these items for NoA if at all. They don’t release half the games we’d like either. We’re not even getting the regular edition new 3DS.

While I do think it sucks what’s happening at Best Buy, I do not really BLAME THEM. It’s not really their fault. As release inches closer I have no doubt Gamestop will start cancelling limited edition games and console versions of MM. If Nintendo did not specify how LOW the low quantity was and they had to go from a guess off of the WiiU’s and 3DS zelda editions before then this really isn’t completely their fault.

Heartbreaking yes, but still fault lies with NoA

I have to point out that other retailers knew that they had a limited supply and didn’t take too many orders, so how come Best Buy didn’t know? I think they did know. I agree with nintendo being out of touch to so grossly underestimate demand, but Best Buy is not innocent here.

some comments here explain why best buy was the worst hit off all retailers. Gamestop was allowed to force more consoles out of nintendo due to the many ghost console glitches, that I myself experienced having gotten 3 ghost consoles I had to cancel. They had to take those consoles away from other retailers. Best buy opened the same day as gamestop, thus thought they had a lot more before they had to be cut do to gamestop’s agreement with Nintendo. They have a legal contract other retailers do not with Nintendo, since Nintendo did not want to manufacture more to meet demands they instead took all the ghost orders away from other retailers thus shorting best buy the amount they had to cancel.

Best Buy can go out of business for all I care. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I don’t know why I thought BB would be able to get their crap together after they screwed up my Pit amiibo pre-order, but I made a huge mistake giving them a second chance. By now, everywhere is already sold out of these, so there goes the one special themed console I was ever gonna get. /=
(Unless they make a Xenoblade-themed New 3DS. It’s the only thing that there’s even a remote chance for between February 13th and when I was gonna actually get my New 3DS anyway, so… here’s to hoping against all hope.)

On a related note… anyone know if/when the crystal covers for the N3DSXL will start popping up? I’m just gonna get the black one at this point and use some decals to make my own changeable face plates for it.

To be honest, $50 is a pretty good deal. Especially if you can actually manage to find the bundle for sale somewhere else. Chances are slim unless Nintendo decides to wake up, but even still. Good deal to me. Free $50 credit? Why the heck not.

Mine got cancelled from Best Buy. I was NOT happy. So I’m just going to wait until Nintendo makes a pink New 3DS

    • Mason Mack

      I wanted to preorder it and couldn’t, but now I’m kinda just wishing I had that $50 off coupon ;_;

      I don’t suppose it’s transferable.

A more apt name might’ve been the “Limited-to-15-Minutes Edition.” Royal clusterf#%k, but I guess I saved myself two hundred dollars.
