Games Done Quick’s annual charity video game speedrunning event Summer Games Done Quick has just concluded on July 12 in Minneapolis, MN, and they raised an astonishing $2.4 million USD for Doctors Without Borders, a nonprofit dedicated to providing quality medical care to people in need in parts of the world who do not have access to it.
Some of the highlights in this year’s event were several Legend of Zelda game speed runs, which included A Link to the Past All Dungeons run, a Tears of the Kingdom Any% glitch less run by Player5 with a hilarious conclusion, and The Wind Waker Randomizer co-op with renowned speedrunners gymnast86 and Tomodachi. The biggest surprise in this year’s event came with an Any% run of the notorious Zelda CDI game Wand of Gamelon by Bradino59.
Games Done Quick is a nonprofit gamer group that has raised over 45 million USD dollars by hosting video game speedrunning benefit events for charities, including Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. They average over 3000 people in attendance at their events, including staff, volunteers, runners, and attendees just looking to have fun and support the event.
