Now that preordering the Switch 2 is back on the table for United States and Canadian customers, you might be wondering where is the best place to do that in your area. While the ideal way to get ahead of the game is to call your local video game outlet dealer for details, it’s nice to know that several of the big usual retail outlets have released their own preordering information. Not surprisingly, most of the preordering opportunities are online for this highly anticipated console. Here’s the basic rundown of what to expect and where to go for the Switch 2 console as well as the console bundle version with Mario Kart World.
Best Buy
The big box electronics retailer announced that preorders will begin online after midnight Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on April 24th. Interestingly, Best Buy is offering a variety of bundles to preorder on their website in addition to just the console. The bundles include various combinations of the console paired with a Switch 2 Pro controller, extra Switch 2 Joy Cons, steering wheels, webcams, physical copies of Mario Kart World, amiibo, and more. The bundles seem to be more for convenience than savings, as the prices appear to reflect the combined regular retail prices for each item description. We haven’t seen any bundles yet for Canada, though, so Canadians should check here for the latest Switch 2 information.
GameStop
GameStop is accepting in-store preorders starting April 24th opening times for all of their store locations. United States customers might be able to save some dough on their preorder online if they get a GameStop Pro credit card. (Yes, we know, it’s the evil c-word. But if it means saving money, it might be worth a try.) Canadian customers can go to the GameStop Canada website to learn more about preordering. The game retailer expects to have about 100 units available for each store, which is about twice the usual quantity for preorders. Much to the delight of nostalgic video game shoppers, GameStop stores will open at midnight EDT June 5 when the console releases, which translates to 9pm June 4th for Pacific Time customers.
Nintendo
It’s nice to know you can preorder the Switch 2 straight from the horse’s mouth. Dedicated Nintendo shoppers can log into their Nintendo Account on Nintendo’s website and register their interest in a console through the My Nintendo Store. This is available for both U.S. and Canadian customers who log into their respected country Nintendo mini-sites. Doing so can help Nintendo Account holders get priority dibs on their preorders. Here’s how the registration process works.
Target
The red spot store is opening their online Switch 2 preorders for U.S. customers starting midnight EDT April 24th. We don’t know if preorders are available at the in-store locations, but it might be worth a try to call your local store for more information. Target also lists all the Switch 2 launch games and accessories together on the same page.
Walmart
Preorders begin for Walmart in the U.S. and Canada on midnight April 24th. Both console bundle type listings as well as the launch day Switch 2 games and upgrades, accessories, and the new amiibo from the Switch 2 Direct are all conveniently listed on the same Walmart page for easy preordering. Walmart is touting an interesting promise that any customer who preorders the Switch 2 console with them on April 24th will get free delivery by 9am on June 5th. However, we don’t know exactly which time zone they’re talking about, and their site Terms and Conditions state that the console might not be available at all locations, so be wary. When in doubt, call your store.
Switch 2 preordering information is currently not available on Amazon.com for the U.S. and Canada.
