console wars

Before Sony vs. Microsoft, we had Nintendo vs. Sega. Written and directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, “The Social Network’s” Scott Rudin is set to produce a motion picture adaptation of “Console Wars,” a soon-to-be-released book by Blake J. Harris.

The console wars began in the early 1990s, when Sega made its way into the Nintendo-dominated video game industry. “Console Wars” details the relentless battle between rising star Sega and champion Nintendo.

Amazon summarizes the upcoming book by Blake J. Harris:

“Based on over two hundred interviews with former Sega and Nintendo employees, Console Wars is the underdog tale of how Kalinske miraculously turned an industry punchline into a market leader. It’s the story of how a humble family man, with an extraordinary imagination and a gift for turning problems into competitive advantages, inspired a team of underdogs to slay a giant and, as a result, birth a $60 billion dollar industry.”

“Console Wars” is available for pre-order on Amazon for $19.88 and is scheduled to release on May 13 of this year. Still in the early stages of production, no date has been set for the feature film.

Slay a giant? If Nintendo is the Giant they certainly weren’t slain as they still make consoles and Sega doesn’t. Yet the description would place Sega as the underdog… Anyone else wandering how this works? Also It is Sony vs. Microsoft vs. NINTENDO. They are far from out. Besides these errors this does sound interesting though. I already know a good bit about Nintendo but I could use some more knowledge about Sega. What happened to Sega exactly? What happened to this notorious Alex the Kid that caused him to be replaced by Sonic? What other characters does Sega have? Does this book answer these questions? I kinda want to know.

Despite the discrepancies this does sound mighty interesting. Although, I do believe that the current Console war, Microsoft vs Sony, is missing one member. And no matter how much that member doesn’t seem to want to be part of this console war he is. Of course maybe that will be addressed in the movie. Seeing that Nintendo is a huge part of it.

Well, this totally doesn’t sound biased towards Sega at all.
