Early this morning via the “Nintendo Today!” app and X (formerly Twitter), Nintendo announced the lead cast members for the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie. Princess Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth.
Though the actors are relatively unknown to general audiences, both have played roles in movies and TV before. Evan Ainsworth’s most notable role is as Pinocchio in Disney’s 2022 live-action remake of the classic animated film. Meanwhile, Bragason has played roles in The Radleys (2024) and Censor (2021), in addition to appearing in multiple TV and limited series, such as Renegade Nell (2024), which is likely her most well-known role to date.
The casting of relatively unknown actors into the lead roles shows quite a shift from The Super Mario Bros Movie (2023), which had an extremely star-studded cast. This decision seems to further indicate the different approach Nintendo has towards the two movies, as already implied by the studio change from Illumination to Sony.
The Legend of Zelda movie is set to release on May 7, 2027, under Maze Runner (2014) director Wes Ball.
