Massive Tears of the Kingdom concept art book teased, to be released in Japan August 30th

It’s time to get hyped like it’s May 2023 all over again. On Friday May 10, two mere days before the game’s one year anniversary, The Legend of Zelda’s official Japanese X account shadow dropped another upcoming concept art book for Tears of the Kingdom called “Master Works.” It will be co-published by Tokuma Shoten and is set to release in Japan this year on August 30th, 2024. But on closer inspection, it’s much more than just another art book. The content itself is massive, with over 464 pages total!

In short, “Master Works” will conduct a Chasm-deep dive into the world of Tears of the Kingdom, complete with Zelda staff comments, development notes, and story content. Several pages of the book were teased online that contain fascinating concept art, including depictions of a dungeon that appear suspiciously similar to Tears of the Kingdom’s first reveal trailer in 2019. “‘Master Works’ contains a lot of materials, including comments from the production staff in charge of design and rough sketches from the development process,” stated a rough English post translation of the Zelda X account. Here are some sample pages that are currently in production.

The book is written in Japanese and is currently up for preorder in several Japanese merchant websites. There is no confirmation if the book will be available in other languages at this time. It is important to note, however, that when the similar Breath of the Wild volume “Creating a Champion” was published in Japan, an English version became available sometime afterwards. Fans are hoping that Master Works will explain the questions that seem to remain unanswered in Tears of the Kingdom. We’ll keep you posted as more information comes to light.
