Nintendo announces 2025 company director election results and approval ratings

Investors voted to re-elect and provide approval ratings for key company directors, including Shuntaro Furukawa and Shigeru Miyamoto, during Nintendo’s 85th annual shareholders’ meeting.

As stated in Nintendo’s articles of incorporation, investors must vote annually on the re-election of Nintendo’s board of directors and submit approval ratings, which are made available to the public. Again this year, all key directors were re-elected. The only new member is Kazuhiko Hachiya, elected as an outside director and member of the board. Hachiya is currently the director at PetWORKs, a Japanese doll company.

“Mr. Hachiya is a media artist who is active beyond the framework of games, and I have known him personally for a long time,” said Shigeru Miyamoto, executive fellow at Nintendo. “Mr. Hachiya engages in unconventional activities, such as researching video games and building his own equipment. We believe that a connection between Mr. Hachiya and our company could lead to an interesting future, which is why we wanted him to join us as an outside director.”

While Hachiya’s impact at Nintendo remains to be seen, he is expected to contribute a unique perspective to the board of directors.

In addition to elections, shareholders also voted on approval ratings for current board members. The following results were previously reported by Nintendo Everything

  • Shuntaro Furukawa – 92.60% (President)
  • Shigeru Miyamoto –  96.18% (Executive Fellow)
  • Shinya Takahashi –  96.23% (Senior Managing Executive Officer)
  • Satoru Shibata – 96.23% (Managing Executive Officer)
  • Ko Shiota – 96.23% (Senior Executive Officer)
  • Yusuke Beppu – 96.23% (Senior Executive Officer)
  • Chris Meledandri – 75.87% (Outside Director)
  • Miyoko Demay – 97.94% (Outside Director)
  • Kazuhiko Hachiya – 98.11% (Outside Director)

These ratings closely resemble last year’s results, with most members seeing slight increases. The only board member with a significant change was outside director Chris Meledanri, CEO of animation company Illumination, whose approval rating dropped by 18.6% from the previous year. Perhaps the release of the sequel to the Super Mario Bros. Movie in early 2026 will help improve his rating. Overall, the results indicate strong shareholder confidence in Nintendo’s leadership as the company transitions into the Nintendo Switch 2 era.
