Breath of the Wild 2 nominated for ‘Most Wanted Game’ at Golden Joystick Awards 2021

Have you heard the good news? The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently in production. What’s that? You heard that news two years ago and you’ve been anxiously checking for updates ever since?

Yes, well, you’re not alone.

The nominees have been announced for the 39th annual Golden Joystick Awards, a prestigious (and formerly all-British) ceremony that celebrates the industry’s best games and boldest minds.

A whopping 12 candidates have been selected for the “Most Wanted Game” category, but in our minds, one shines brightest of all — and with all due respect, no, it’s not Skate 4. Indeed, the epic upcoming adventure that the gaming industry has understandably taken to calling The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 holds a very special place on this list.

Also nominated for “Most Wanted Game” is Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Game Freak’s big, not-quite-open-world extravaganza. Launching in January, Arceus is a distant prequel to the Pokémon franchise’s popular Sinnoh region. Players will join the Galaxy Exploration Team as they unravel the secrets of Sinnoh in a time when the land was known instead as Hisui. There’s a regional Zoroa variant that’s very, very cute. It’s a whole thing.

Meanwhile, the excellent Metroid Dread sees Samus Aran gunning for multiple awards this year. Dread has been nominated not just for “Nintendo Game of the Year,” but also for “Ultimate Game of the Year.” And “Ultimate,” in case it isn’t clear, is Golden Joystick Awards phrasing for “better than all the rest.” Nice going, Samus.

For a complete list of categories and nominees, head over to GamesRadar where you’ll also be able to vote to your heart’s content and help decide the winners. I’m not, like, illegally picketing outside the digital voting booths or anything, but admit it: You’re sorely tempted to click on Breath of the Wild 2.
