Yes, you guessed it: the “Regginator” is back. Last Thursday the Game Awards officially announced that former Nintendo President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime will take the reigns once again as one of the presenters for The Game Awards Show on December 9. What’s different this time around? Well, our beloved past president made a remark on his Twitter account thus far that’s already turned quite a few heads in the online gaming community.
Not long after the announcement was made, Mr. Reggie himself posted on his Twitter account that this year, the Game Awards Show will indeed be “legendary.” And that’s it. That’s the tweet.
Wait a minute — legendary?
That word “legendary,” of course, could mean so many things right now. Not everything legendary is Legend of Zelda, mind you. Like a cloaked enigma returning to the shadows, the Regginator has said nothing more about the comment thus far. “Legendary” could be anything from the next new Pokemon with souped-up stats to the new fine dining restaurant opening up in your neighborhood. Why even bring it up on Zelda Universe, then? Well, there is very big reason why that any Zelda fan could probably guess right now.
Not long before Reggie’s tweet, Geoff Keighley, The Game Awards’ Executive Producer, made waves with a tweet of his own.
What happened two and a half years ago? Nintendo’s legendary E3 Direct presentation in 2019, which surprised us all with (you guessed it) the upcoming sequel to Breath of the Wild. Could more content and a proper title for the Breath of the Wild sequel finally be shown off at The Game Awards before 2021 comes to a close? We will soon see.
During E3 2021 with the last Breath of the Wild sequel trailer, Nintendo already stated their desire to disclose even more of their beautiful gem to the world later this year. As the final curtain call for 2021 draws closer, a Breath of the Wild sequel showing at The Game Awards seems more and more likely to happen. Despite not being finished, the game itself is already nominated for the “Most Anticipated Game” award category.
For now, the only way to know is to watch the show and keep on dreaming. The Game Awards streams live worldwide on December 9, 8pm EST.
