Tears of the Kingdom, multiple Nintendo games, receive nominations for The Game Awards 2022

The hype is on for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as we sit just under six months from its May 2023 release date, and that excitement is being recognized at this year’s edition of The Game Awards. Tears of the Kingdom has been nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category, alongside the likes of Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4, and Starfield. This marks the third year in a row that Tears of the Kingdom has been nominated in this category, although in previous years it was referred to only as the Breath of the Wild sequel.

Several other Nintendo games are up for nomination in a variety of categories. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is in the running for three different categories: Best Role Playing Game, Best Score and Music, and the prestigious Game of the Year honor. Nintendo Switch hits Live A Live, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and Triangle Strategy join Xenoblade Chronicles 3 as nominees for Best Role Playing Game.

Bayonetta 3 has received a nod for Best Action Game, while Splatoon 3 is up for the Best Multiplayer Game. Nintendo is in great shape to reclaim the Best Family Game Award this year (after losing out to It Takes Two in 2021), with Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Splatoon 3 all being nominated in the category.

Legend of Zelda fans will also be pleased to know that a very well received Zelda-like is being recognized in multiple categories. The acclaimed indie hit Tunic, with its adorable fox adventurer and exploration driven experience, has been nominated for Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, and Best Action/Adventure Game. We here at Zelda Universe were big fans of the charming title, so we’re definitely pulling for it to take home an award or two! You can read our review of Tunic here.

The 2022 edition of The Game Awards will be held on Thursday, December 8th starting at 7:00 PM EST. It will stream live on more than 40 digital platforms, including YouTube and Twitch. Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser sits on the event’s advisory board, alongside numerous other influential figures from the gaming industry. You can vote for your favorite games in all categories on The Game Awards’ website.
