New enemies revealed in new Breath of the Wild sequel E3 2021 trailer

The Breath of the Wild sequel trailer from the E3 Nintendo Direct showed us a few new enemies that we will encounter on the journey.

Firstly, a couple of enemies that are returning have seen some changes. For example, the Bokoblins in the trailer seem to have grown horns on their head. This is probably to symbolize an increase in power for pig creatures, and most likely can be explained by the increase of Malice in Hyrule changing the monsters. The other returning-but-altered enemy is revealed just a second later and is the Stone Talus. This time the stone beast has an entire camp of the Horned Bokoblins on top of it. It is unclear how to beat the new version of this overworld boss, but the new team-up should create quite a challenge. Moblins also appeared during the trailer, but do not appear to have any visible changes.

Next, the trailer moves on to show a few completely new enemies to the world of Breath of the Wild. The first of which is seen early in the trailer, and shares a strong resemblance with the Armos from previous Zelda games. This enemy is a large stone structure with one eye, an oval head, two hands, and two egg-shaped parts on either side of its head. No combat was shown for this monster so we do not know how it will fight as of yet.

During the scene with Link using his fancy new fire cannon, there is an interesting new plant monster on the ceiling. The plant monster seems to take the appearance of a flower with a flat head, a spotted bulb in the center, and sharp boney structures around the parameter.  The new monster quickly coils up when hit by Link’s fire, showing the new weapons’ effectiveness against the plant. The enemy looks entirely new, but could potentially be this game’s take on Deku Babas or Deku Likes.

Enemy encounters have always been fun within The Legend of Zelda, and these new enemies look just as imaginative and interesting as Zelda enemies have always been.
