Summer Games Done Quick 2020 is now underway, taking place on the Games Done Quick Twitch channel. As with the previous event in April, SGDQ is taking place as an online-only event. This means that, unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is once again no in-person convention this year. However, that doesn’t stop us from enjoying some amazing speedruns for a good cause!
Speedrunners will be running a variety of video games from the comfort of their own homes. We’ll still be able to listen to some excellent commentary from highly skilled players and the roster of games this year is extremely varied.
The SGDQ 2020 schedule features a variety of Zelda games, including the likes of Zelda II, Link’s Awakening (1993), Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess HD, and Breath of the Wild. Zelda II is up first at 10:20am PT / 1:20pm EST / 6:20PM BST, and will be run by EnchantressOfNumbers. This will be an interesting speedrun, as it is a Reverse Boss Order playthrough of the game.
Other Zelda categories include Twilight Princess (any%), Link’s Awakening (“warpless”), Ocarina of Time (randomizer co-op), and Breath of the Wild (“All Dog Treasures”). The legendary gymnast86 is among the variety of runners participating in the Zelda speedruns this year, and you’ll be able to catch him during the any% run of Twilight Princess HD.
Summer Games Done Quick Online 2020 is now live benefiting relief organization Doctor’s Without Borders. Last year’s event managed to raise a whopping $3 million USD! There are other games to look forward to during the marathon including Super Mario Odyssey, The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, and much more. The event is currently ongoing on the GDQ Twitch channel and will be running until August 23.
