Nintendo has softly announced a slight, but significant upgrade on their standard Switch console, with improved battery life being the big talking point.
The battery life upgrade isn’t a meager one either, offering close to twice the time to play Breath of the Wild on the go. The box that the console is sold in will also be a different variant to the one you might be used to seeing, negating the hassle of looking for serial numbers and the like.
The revised console is to be available across Europe in September, with Japan and North America to offer the ramped up model around the same time. It’s not the hotly rumored “Switch Pro,” but if you are in the market for a Switch, September onwards promises to be a better time than ever to pick one up.
“Consumers should start seeing the new packaging on store shelves starting from early September, but that will vary by individual stores and locations,” Nintendo UK told Eurogamer.
Note that this isn’t related to the freshly unveiled Nintendo Switch Lite, rather it is a newly improved internal for the usual Switch console you are well acquainted with by now.
Below, you can see the comparison of gameplay time for Breath of the Wild between the standard and revised versions of the Switch, along with a general gaming time which is displayed in brackets.
- Older standard Switch: 3 hours (2.5-6.5 hours average battery life)
- Switch Lite: 4 hours (3-7 hours average battery life)
- Revised standard Switch: 5.5 hours (4.5-9 hours average battery life)
