Nintendo confirms ‘Switch Mini’ rumors with the reveal of the Switch Lite

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Rumors and accessory leaks have circled the web for weeks now, hinting at an inevitable reveal of a “Switch Mini.” Nintendo, as always, remained coy when questioned on the new hardware — only to drop the PR announcement this morning out of the blue.

In the below video, Nintendo Switch general producer Yoshiaki Koizumi introduces the Nintendo Switch Lite, a trimmed-down version of the Nintendo Switch. Priced at $199, the Switch Lite is a dedicated handheld system designed to be taken on the go with more ease than the original Switch. Instead of separate Joy-Cons, the Switch Lite is a single unit. As such, it doesn’t feature HD Rumble or motion controls, and it can’t connect to your TV.

The system launches on September 20, 2019, in three colors: grey, yellow, and turquoise. (If you don’t mind waiting for one with a bit of legendary flair, a fourth Pokemon Sword and Shield model will launch on November 15, 2019.)

For additional details on the Nintendo Switch Lite, check out its official site to see if the new model is right for you.
