Nintendo secures an AMD Excellence Award after a phenomenal year for Switch

From the ashes of Wii U, Nintendo has had a resurrection many would have doubted before the Switch entered the gaming realm.

At the 23rd Association of Media in Digital (AMD) Awards on March 12, 2018, Nintendo scooped a well-deserved AMD Excellence Award at the venue of Meiji Kinenkan in Tokyo.

Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi and Shinya Takahashi — who played a huge role in the creation of the Switch — were in attendance when the company was recognised and shown gratitude for the successful global launch of the Nintendo Switch. Back in March 2017, around the launch of the console, they stated that “the number of titles at launch is less important than the uniqueness of the experience”. Perhaps this sentiment can be attributed to Nintendo’s many commendable achievements and accolades, like the AMD Excellence Award, they’ve earned in the past year.

The Switch was the highest selling console in January in the US after having overtaken five years of Wii U sales in less than twelve months on the shelves. It’s a snapshot account for what has been an incredible journey for Nintendo’s new hardware intertwined with world class software in the form of Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey which helped drive excitement and sales for Nintendo. And with games like Super Smash Bros. just announced for the Switch, there’s plenty of momentum for the road ahead.

Congratulations to everyone at Nintendo on receiving even more deserved recognition!
