With an estimated 1.2 million Nintendo Switch 2 units to ship at launch in Japan, Nintendo has partnered with popular flea market websites in Japan to prevent fraudulent listings of any Nintendo products. The sites that they’ve partnered with include Rakuten Group Co., Ltd., Mercari, Inc., LINE Yahoo Japan Corporation, and Yahoo! Auctions Japan. Some of the measures even include banning any auction listings for the Switch 2 until after launch, but accessories and games are still allowed. Any listings allowing the purchase of a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order are also being banned. After launch, listings for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be permitted.
With the influx of scalpers, bootleggers, and fraudsters, these preventative measures come as a relief to many fans who may still be scrambling to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch 2 preorder right before launch. These moves by Nintendo are likely setting a precedent for launches moving forward in an effort to protect consumers.
