Nintendo Digital Event announced, replacing E3 press conference (also: Reggie Fils-a-Mech)

Following last year’s Direct broadcast, Nintendo will once again avoid holding a traditional press conference at E3 this year. This time, the company will be launching Nintendo Digital Event, a live broadcast which aims to bring news directly to fans. It will air at 9am PT on June 10.

The Nintendo Treehouse team will be showing off demos live from the show floor after the Digital Event, streaming during all hours of the show from Nintendo’s booth.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says:

“We demonstrated last year that we are never afraid to reinvent a proven tactic or to break completely new ground if we believe it will provide the best experience for our fans, followers and partners,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and chief operating officer. “So, whether you’re attending E3 in person or joining online, there’s an amazing lineup of games, experiences and events coming your way.”

There will also be a Super Smash Bros. Invitational event, wherein 16 of the world’s greatest Smash players will compete in a Super Smash Bros. Wii U tournament held at Nokia’s L.A. Live Theatre.

Perhaps even more importantly, however, Nintendo have released a new video. It contains both Reggie Fils-Aime and comedy group Mega64 — so I would sit down and prepare yourself. Oh, and listen out for Ghirahim’s Theme!
