Nintendo has grown into a notable household name these days, even when compared to Apple. We now know that more people watched the latest Nintendo Direct on September 12 than the iPhone 17 reveal, which happened three days before. An astonishing 2.92 million viewers watched the 90 minute presentation by Nintendo whereas only 2.80 million viewed the Apple event. Data from StreamCharts shows that two out of four Nintendo Directs have the highest number of viewers in the past two years. Nintendo’s Japanese Youtube channel brought in 1.5 million viewers alone, which contributed to the overall success of the Direct format.
The Sept. 12 Nintendo Direct gained 3.2 million hours of average watch time, which makes it the second-most viewed Direct that Nintendo has ever done. Among gaming and technology showcases this year, it ranks third behind the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, Summer Game Fest 2025, Apple’s iPhone 17 event and the May 27 Nintendo Direct held earlier this year. Current Youtube stats show the Japanese Direct has received 7.7 million views while Nintendo of America has 5.1 million.
