Tetra’s Treasures: Octorok Plush

When I think of pesky Zelda enemies, a few options come to mind. Of course, there’s Moblins, Keese, Ropes, and my personal favorite, the Octorok! Before I go any further, I want it to be known that I’m strictly talking about Red Octoroks; the species present in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom can go choke. These vexing little creatures have been with The Legend of Zelda series since the very beginning. According to a quick search, Octoroks have appeared in every single Zelda game, except for Twilight Princess. I’m not sure why this is the case, because personally I think they would have been a great addition. At any rate, I enjoy the company of Octoroks so much that I decided to adopt one!

A little while ago, I ventured to Nintendo World NYC and came across the most beautiful sight: a pod (I feel like pod describes them well) of Red Octorok plushies! These plushies, made with polyester fibers, are extremely soft and squishy, almost similar to a Squishmallow. They’re so squishy in fact, that I named mine Squishy! Squishy enjoys sleeping at the end of my bed at night as well as listening to jazz music.

One aspect of Squishy that I really love is his size. If Octoroks were real, I feel like they would be about his height and width (they probably would weigh more, though). These plushies are about the size of a small dog or a large cat, so they are perfect for any household.

There were other Zelda themed plushies for sale as well at Nintendo World. There was a Hylian Shield plush and an adorable Korok that I almost bought before I saw the Octoroks. These plushies are made extremely well and make for a unique spin on a traditional throw pillow. Why decorate your couches with boring throw pillows when you can use well-made Zelda themed ones?

Lastly, the Octorok plushies are safe for all ages. I have a Link and Zelda Breath of the Wild plush, and while they’re great, I think it’s possible to accidentally rip off some pieces (Link’s earrings and Zelda’s side pouch for example). There’s nothing to easily pull apart on the Octorok plushies, as long as you safely remove the tags. Overall, Squishy is a great addition to my family and I hope to someday adopt a Korok plush!
