Medli’s Melodies: Chopin’s fairy fantaisie

I’ve always been a fan of classical music. Their entrancing melodies and traditional instruments have stimulated my mind from a young age. That’s probably why I also came to enjoy Zelda music so much. There are many similarities between how the pieces are composed — some current-day Zelda music is even performed by a live orchestra! All that being said, it’s no wonder I’m so entranced by Micah Sky’s wonderful ensemble of playing “The Great Fairy’s Fountain Theme” with a Chopin twist!

Chopin was well known for prominent piano pieces; I’m sure you’ve heard many of them without even realizing it, like “Nocturne op.9 No.2.” (I can’t remember a name like that either, so don’t worry.) He not only had a very distinct style, but one of his songs, “Fantasie Impromptu,” also sounds eerily familiar to “The Great Fairy’s Fountain Theme,” which makes for the perfect mashup!

Using inspiration from the first minute or so of the classical piece, Micah Sky has intertwined the two songs and created something completely new!

I believe I discovered this piece when I was searching on YouTube for “The Great Fairy’s Fountain Theme” from Breath of the Wild. Having grown up with a piano teacher for a mother, the instrument was not preferred, as I’d get tired of hearing it so often. However, something about the way it was played in the aforementioned game was so peaceful and calming. Now, adding a bit of Chopin flair gives it new energy, and I could listen to it for hours at a time! As a matter of fact, I think I will.
