Breath of the Wild has some of the most relaxing, elegantly composed music of the entire series. “Kass’s Theme”, in particular, is a fan favorite. The solo accordion plays a captivating and exhilarating, yet somehow soothing tune that Breath of the Wild players
With that in mind, Kass’s Theme is a melody I never expected to hear in a game as fast-paced and adrenalizing as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, its remix in the newest Smash Bros. is simply magnificent. Somehow, it’s been effortlessly remixed into an upbeat yet incredibly faithful piece that’ll get you tapping your feet along to the beat.
I’m so glad they kept the crisp sound of the accordion in this remix, which plays on the Great Plateau Tower stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It would have been an easy mistake for them to change it to an electric guitar or something more traditionally ‘aggressive’ to fit the Smash Bros. environment. But thanks to the accordion, it’s immediately recognizable as Kass’s iconic composition. Plus, they managed to get in a segment of the classic Legend of Zelda theme (around the 1:10 mark). I love this – it adds a nice bit of variation to the piece and truly makes it feel like the ultimate (ha) Zelda remix.
What’s more, I’m amazed by how well they’ve managed to integrate these melodies into such a high-energy remix and yet maintain their original essence. It really gets you pumped and ready to smash, while simultaneously nostalgic (and possibly humming along) to what is now a classic tune in the Zelda series. It got me thinking that Kass was somewhere in the background, possibly down below on one of the balconies leading up to the Tower, turning up the tempo of his accordion and telling someone a great tale about the smash battles people had here. Now I really wish he was an assist trophy or something (or maybe, please maybe Nintendo, a DLC character). #KassforSmash
