Tears of the Kingdom wins Joystick Award for best Nintendo Game

Last Friday Tears of the Kingdom brought the gold home at the Joystick Awards with best Nintendo Game of the Year. The 2023 show was live streamed globally from London and was also hosted in-person for the first time since 2019. The Joystick Awards show was in its 41st year since 1982. (Feeling old yet?)

The other nominations for the Nintendo Game category included Pikmin 4, Metroid Prime Remastered, Fire Emblem Engage, Fae Farm, and Octopath Traveler II, many of them noble titles in their own right. Tears of the Kingdom’s latest win sparked fiery debates in the gaming community over the weekend as nominations announcements for Geoff Keighly’s The Game Awards loom into Monday. 2023 has been a phenomenal year for gaming, to say the least, as a good number of blockbuster contestants have joined Tears in the ring to snatch the winning spotlight, including but not limited to Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake II, Starfield, Sea of Stars, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and now Super Mario Wonder.

Who will win the perceived grand prize in this all-star Super Smash Bros. Ultimate style brawl of games for the ages? We’ll keep an eye on what The Game Awards has in store for us this year!
