Second free Age of Imprisonment update includes a new weapon, difficulty level, new skills and more

The second new free update for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is available for players to download worldwide on December 18, 2025, just in time for the holidays. Koei Tecmo’s Age of Imprisonment website reveals the details of said update, which are originally published in Japanese. The update includes a cool looking new one-handed weapon called the Forbidden Sword in a rough unofficial English translation, and a “Phantom Mode” where “Dangerous Species” (likely the Vicious enemies) and / or “Miasma Enemies” (i.e. Gloom covered monsters) can randomly spawn on battlefields players have previously cleared, and even Phantom Ganon can show up when a strong enemy is defeated. Players can also obtain more Pure Zonaite Steel in this mode as a reward.

If you’re looking for tougher challenges, a new “Taboo” difficulty mode is also part of the second update, which is the hardest mode for the game to date. Clearing battles in this mode will get players rewards such as more Pure Zonaite Steel and an “Increased Carry Limit for Special Food.” New Challenges will be added to the map. Lizaflos and Chu Chus can now appear as Vicious, and a new unlockable Training Hall on a Sky Island is available for players to use.

New skills for the Mysterious Construct will also be available in the second update. These skills are for when he yields a one-handed sword, a two-handed weapon, or a spear respectively. The website reveals an interesting description for the one-handed skill in particular called a “Shield Charge,” which allows a spin attack to happen when the Construct steps forward with his shield and wards off an enemy attack with a well-timed defense.

You can see the original Japanese description of the second update on the official Age of Imprisonment website here, and an unofficial translated English version of the full details from Nintendo Everything here. No official word has been mentioned about more Age of Imprisonment updates after this one, but it’s not unreasonable to think that paid DLC could be on the horizon for next year. Age of Calamity received an Expansion Pass in 2021 which included more playable characters and story in two extra waves of content, Pulse of the Ancients and Guardian of Remembrance. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is available for purchase now through multiple retail merchants around the world and online.
