Lots of brilliant inventions were released in 2025, and Nintendo’s latest hardware is one of the best.
Since its launch in April, the Nintendo Switch 2 has found its way into the homes of millions across the globe. It boasts brand new features in console gaming, including magnetic Joy-Cons and portable mouse controls. Its ingenuity has been rewarded in it becoming the fastest-selling gaming console ever and finding a place among Time’s best inventions of 2025.
“The original Nintendo Switch rewrote the rules for portable gaming,” Time wrote. “Its 2025 sequel increases the power without sacrificing portability. A sampling of its impressive stats: An Nvidia Tegra T239 chip, alongside dedicated ray-tracing and Deep Learning Super-Sampling (DLSS) cores, lets the new model run at 4K on TVs, while the on-device 7.9-inch HDR display runs handheld titles at 1080p and 120Hz, meaning there’s no flicker during gameplay. Its 12 GB of LPDDR5X memory also helps keep sprawling open worlds stutter-free.”
Other recognized inventions include humanoid household robots, an AI drone, a braille tablet, space internet satellites, a spacecraft that landed on the moon, and much more. It’s safe to say that the Nintendo Switch 2 is in good company.
