Tears of the Kingdom has already received a number of accolades from various publications and award shows, but another reputable ceremony coming in March is preparing us for a fresh round of laurels. Game Developers Choice Awards 2024 has reviewed all of the best games of last year and compiled the finalists in a comprehensive set of categories. The competition is stiff, but Link’s latest adventure still managed to receive a towering seven nominations, tied only with Baldur’s Gate 3 for the most nominations.

At GDCA 2018, which celebrated 2017’s standout games, Tears of the Kingdom’s predecessor, Breath of the Wild, took home the Game of the Year award, as well as the titles of Best Audio and Best Design. This year, Tears of the Kingdom is nominated for Best Audio, Best Design, the Innovation Award, Best Narrative, Best Technology, Best Visual Art, and Game of the Year. There’s a lot of overlap in these categories with the other leading finalists, Baldur’s Gate 3 and COCOON, both nominated for the Game of the Year award and many others. I personally think Tears of the Kingdom is most likely to be recognized for Best Technology, given the true marvel that the Ultrahand crafting system is, and Best Visual Art — I mean, have you seen those sunsets?
The full list of nominees and honourable mentions can be found here. There’s also an Audience Award that anyone can participate in, and you can only cast your ballot until the 31st at 11:59pm PST, so be sure to go there and vote for your favourite game from 2023. (And if you don’t vote for Zelda, that’s okay, too — I won’t tell!)
