Super Smash Bros. Ultimate took home the honor of Best Fighting Game at the 2019 Game Awards yesterday, securing victory over Mortal Kombat 11, Samurai Shodown, Jump Force, and Dead or Alive 6.

Smash Ultimate was also nominated for Game of the Year and Best Family Game, but the competition was fierce and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Luigi’s Mansion 3 claimed victory in those categories, respectively. Link’s Awakening (2019) and Cadence of Hyrule also received nominations this year.

According to The Game Awards’ official website, winners are chosen based on a combination of selected jury and fan-submitted votes. The full list of winners and nominees can be found here.
