Tears of the Kingdom receives seven nominations for the BAFTA Game Awards

The nominations for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’s Game Awards 2024 are announced, and Tears of the Kingdom gets another chance at snagging more awards under its belt. The Hero of the Wild’s latest adventure in Hyrule has received seven award nominations which include categories for Game Design, Music, Audio Achievement, Narrative, Technical Achievement, and Best Game. The seventh category consists of the EE Players’ Choice Award, where Tears of the Kingdom can now be voted by the public to win this prize.

The EE Players’ Choice Award is a relatively new category formed by BAFTA in 2021 due to popular demand. Baldur’s Gate 3, Fortnite, Lethal Company, Cyberpunk 2077, and Spider Man 2 are also on the ballot for the Choice Award. “A massive congratulations to all of this year’s nominees for the EE Players’ Choice Award. All six of these games have captured the curiosity of players around the world and we’re so pleased this is reflected in the name of the award,” says Tara Saunders, Chair of BAFTA’s Games Committee. “…We look forward to announcing all the winners on Thursday 11th April.” Bear in mind that voting appears to only be open to players in the United Kingdom, as a UK mobile phone number is required to complete a vote entry. So if you’re a Zelda fan in the UK, be sure to click this website link and vote for Tears of the Kingdom!

Tears of the Kingdom is once again nominated for several categories in the BAFTA Game Awards, including Game Design and Technical Achievement. UK fans can cast their vote for it to win the EE Players’ Choice Award on https://ee.co.uk/gaming/baftagames.

Unfortunately, that also means Tears of the Kingdom confronts its familiar rivals once again in the best game titles competition. Spider Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3 are also up in the running for Best Game at BAFTA 2024. Baldur’s Gate 3 has received a whopping 10 nominations so far. What can we say? 2023 was a phenomenal year in video game releases.

Will Tears of the Kingdom finally trip up Baldur’s Gate 3’s winning stride? It’s going to be a grueling neck-and-neck race, but you never know how the tables will turn at BAFTA. Last year, Kirby and the Forgotten Land was crowned Best Family Game at BAFTA 2023, a delightful surprise for a somewhat lightweight representation for Nintendo. The good news is that this year, Tears is not alone. Super Mario Bros Wonder teams up with its Nintendo sibling as contender for BAFTA’s Best Game Category. Wonder is also nominated in three more categories which include Family, Animation, and Multiplayer. The 2024 BAFTA Game Awards will be broadcast live on April 11th, 7pm BST / 2pm EST / 11 am PST through various social media channels including YouTube, X, and Twitch.
