It appears that the details are finally coming together for Tears of the Kingdom as we get closer to May 12th. The Game Awards winner now has its own website with an officially published rating from the ESRB. The rating is suitable for “Everyone 10+,” with “fantasy violence and mild suggestive themes.” This rating is typical for the Zelda franchise. What’s interesting is that the description “use of alcohol” from Breath of the Wild’s ESRB rating is now absent from Tears of the Kingdom.
While this common rating may bring a sense of relief for some players (and parents), it is important to note from past trends that Tears of the Kingdom still has the potential to pack a punch. Seasoned Zelda fans know all too well that Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and even The Wind Waker dished out their fair shares of intensity even though they were rated “E for Everyone” and later “Everyone 10+” with their remakes.
