Whether you love Skyward Sword or otherwise, it’s clear that the Zelda title still has legs. Five days after release and Skyward Sword HD is currently the second bestselling physical game this year on Amazon, across all platforms. It’s only losing out to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, while overcoming the unrelenting forces of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Ring Fit Adventure.
Nintendo Switch is currently claiming the top 16 slots of bestselling games. It would seem that the OLED model’s announcement isn’t slowing down system sales, and people are still eager to catch up on the Switch’s best games. Anyone who’s paid attention to these kinds of things won’t be surprised to hear that games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Breath of the Wild continue to keep a firm grip on their reign.
Of the top ten games, only Just Dance 2021 is a third-party game. The next third-party game is at 13 and it’s Monster Hunter Rise, which continues to be an incredible force on Nintendo’s console.
It remains to be seen how long this game will stay up this high, but it seems like this has been a much-appreciated version of this game. It’s probably almost entirely due to the button controls, if I had to guess. Either way, I know I’ve been reminded that Skyward Sword is a surprisingly charming, fun adventure as I play through it for the first time since 2011.
