February 21 marked The Legend of Zelda series 35th anniversary, and for the occasion, Masahiro Sakurai continued his tradition of recreating famous video game moments in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!
For this particular event, he chose to recreate the original Legend of Zelda‘s final battle with Ganon, as well as including a personal twist. In his tweet, Sakurai states that he recalls picking up the game on the day of its release and claims that the title screen’s display of all the game’s items was exciting. He also draws reference to Link’s optimal loadout at the end of the game, hence why he choose a red tunic for the recreation.
The Zelda series isn’t the only one celebrating an anniversary this year. It’s also the Star Fox series 28th anniversary as well. Sakurai gave a shoutout to not only Star Fox, but also Argonaut Game’s Super FX chip that made the game possible.
