Last week, Reddit user nexusgx shared a quick clip on the r/3Dprinting subreddit showing off one of their recent 3D-print designs: an NES cartridge that doubles as a Switch game card case.
The pop-out tray holds up to 12 Switch game cartridges. The tray is held in place with a simple snap latch, so while it will stay in place for a small amount of shaking, it could possibly be pushed free by accident, especially if it’s bouncing around a bag with a few other items. This is a redesign of a previous version the user had created which utilized a hinged design rather than the pop-out slot design. It seems this design is much more durable compared to the relatively weak and fragile hinges of the previous designs. The user also offers an alternate, simple tray if you would like to print them for a different use.
Additionally, nexusgx has released the files for those who would like to print themselves on both Prusa and MakerBot’s Thingiverse and is even selling them on their Etsy store if you do not have a 3D printer of your own. Having put the files out there for distribution, other printers have quickly hopped on the project and printed their own variations and of course, someone was quick to break out their gold filament. User justindustin posted pictures of their take on the NES cart design:
