Commonwealth Realm theorizes on the bosses of the Breath of the Wild sequel

A new theory on the Breath of the Wild sequel by Commonwealth Realm is spreading like wildfire. The video suggests the return of traditional Zelda bosses for the sequel and explores how they could be different on the Nintendo Switch system. Some points in the video express opinions I don’t personally agree with, but the ideas presented are no doubt intriguing. You can watch the video here:

Thanks to the powerful capabilities we’ve seen from the Nintendo Switch, the creative doors to enthralling Zelda bosses in the next Breath of the Wild sequel have swung open. We already know from its reveal trailer that Ganondorf will appear. The real question is, how will that happen? Sure, we relish every chance to clash blades with the ancient King of Evil, but this time we sense something different is brewing. After all, Breath of the Wild is all about shaking up the original formula. How would the final fight be different this time? What will this new entourage of bosses look like? We can only imagine.

And imagine we will. In Breath of the Wild, Nintendo knitted much thought and care into Hyrule’s intricate world-building, and this appears to have carried over to its successor. We see cave paintings of a fierce mounted warlord in the trailer, for example. Will we witness Ganondorf return to overwhelm Hyrule with an undead army? He certainly is capable of building his own empire. A sophisticated monster hierarchy up close and personal would be a thrill. The basis for it is already present in the canon account of Breath of the Wild’s Lizaflos society. Perhaps the bosses in its sequel are high-ranking monsters of sorts, like Wind Waker’s Elite Darknuts, but on a much grander scale.

Speaking of scale, Commonwealth Realm suggests the possibility of colossal boss monsters in the Breath of the Wild sequel. I think this idea would be fun. It was touched before with Morpheel in Twilight Princess, and the mechanics in Breath of the Wild make this easier to achieve. The new perspective is fitting for the Zelda franchise and allows the experimentation of unique fight tactics. It might get repetitive if all the bosses were behemoth-sized, but a healthy balance is a welcome change of pace.

How would you like to see boss fights in the Breath of the Wild sequel? Which bosses do you want to return? Or do you prefer the original Breath of the Wild style?
