Link’s Awakening and Cadence of Hyrule take Game Awards nominations

Game Awards

This year’s Game Awards nominees have been released today by presenter Geoff Keighley. Among the nominees are several Nintendo titles, including Link’s Awakening (2019), Cadence of Hyrule, Smash Bros. Ultimate, and more!

Link’s Awakening came through with nominations for “Best Action/Adventure” game and “Best Art Direction.” It’s great that the visual design is being recognized there.

“Best Soundtrack/Score” has Cadence of Hyrule in the running. I can’t say I disagree with it being on the list, but Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was robbed for best soundtrack.

Speaking of which, Smash Bros. was nominated for “Best Fighting Game” and overall “Game of the Year.” It was a good year to be a Zelda fan, as well as a Nintendo fan overall. Nintendo also took all nominations in “Best Family Game.” Tetris 99 had a “Best Multiplayer” nod while Fire Emblem: Three Houses received one for “Best Strategy” game.

If you will humor me a little, I’d like to boast that Outer Wilds (NOT The Outer Worlds) was nominated for “Fresh Indie Game,” “Best Independent Game,” and “Best Game Direction.” It is my personal game of the year, and I truly believe this game has a lot to offer Zelda fans. The influences are clear once you get into it.

A full list of the nominees can be viewed and nominated on at The Game Awards website.
