The re-release of Hyrule Warriors for the Switch was the first time I got to play the Wind Waker storyline, as the DLC for the Wii U only carried over the characters and weapons. I was excited to visit these new locations and explore the new story segments that gave one of my all-time favorite Zelda games a part in this spin-off title that I had become so engrossed with. One of the highlights from this portion of the game was actually not an event that had occurred or a character that I unlocked, but a certain stage that got my blood pumping and a familiar song with its own Hyrule Warriors spin.
I was already in love with the design of the Wind/Earth Temple stage, combining elements from both Wind Waker dungeons on the same map in a unique and functional way. Once the level started, I heard the familiar drumbeat that starts the boss theme I know all too well, but little was I expecting to hear guitars shredding and cymbals crashing. Even more so, I wasn’t expecting to love it so much.
The new extensions of this melody really shine during the second and third loops of the track. This is when it really lets the guitar and bass loose. It only gets better when on the next cycle it changes up the chord progression in a fun-yet-suspenseful manner. This music really helps get into the right mindset for taking on a Hyrule Warriors challenge!
Hyrule Warriors has taken so many classic tunes from a variety of Zelda titles and altered them to fit the high-speed tone of the exciting hack-and-slash game that it is. “Molgera’s Theme” on its own is enough to get the adrenaline going, but hearing it with this tricked out drumbeat and rifting guitars is a whole new experience. If you haven’t heard it already, now’s the time to strap on your scabbard, equip your Hookshot, and head into the dungeon depths in Hyrule Warriors.
