In a recent interview with Zelda series direct Eiji Aonuma, Game Informer asked what the future of Zelda remakes looked like. According to Aonuma, there are currently no plans for any further remakes.
Given that they’re still working on finishing up the Link’s Awakening remake, it stands to reason they wouldn’t put another in the pipeline until they had time and resources. That counts doubly so considering that a new Breath of the Wild sequel is coming, they might need to focus resources in that direction.

When specifically asked about a Skyward Sword remake, Aonuma was surprised when it was suggested that it be remade without motion controls. He told the interviewers that it seems like it would be impossible. While maybe a bit hyperbolic, it does make sense that Skyward Sword without motion controls wouldn’t be the same game. They would most likely have to create it from the ground up, as most of the puzzles and combat were designed around the various directional and motion aspects, like aiming. It’s certainly not impossible, but given that the Joy-Cons use similar motion tech as the Wii Motion Plus, it should be expected that any Skyward Sword remake is going to be motion based.
Just as a reminder, there’s still the Link’s Awakening remake coming incredibly soon, and another Zelda title out now if you need something to tide you over. Between those, and the aforementioned Breath of the Wild sequel, I think Nintendo fans have more than enough Zelda for the time being.
