Cadence of Hyrule: The Crypt of the Necrodancer was a surprise on just about every level when it was announced back in March. Nintendo, who is historically VERY protective of its IP, let an indie developer have access to one of its most precious franchises. Recently, the developers at Brace Yourself Games discussed their upcoming game.
At Bitsummit, a Japanese games exhibit focusing on indie titles, the developers discussed how Nintendo let them handle the lore. Lead designer Oliver Trujillo mentioned that Nintendo held a (fairly unsurprising) tight grip on what they could and couldn’t put in the game. The company wanted it to retain the sort of lore and mystery that the series is known for, which probably means there won’t be a whole lot for you Zelda Timeline Theorists to work with.
They didn’t go into specifics about any of the track listings just yet, but they did mention that there will be a strong emphasis on Link to the Past tracks. That makes sense given the game’s faux 16-bit style, and since Link to the Past basically created many of the songs we still see in Zelda today, like Zelda’s Lullaby and Hyrule Castle. It does appear that Necrodancer composer Danny Baranowski is going to be involved in these remixes.
While we still don’t have a hard date, Cadence of Hyrule is still on track to be out later this month. We expect to hear more at Nintendo’s E3 events next week. You can read more details about the Bitsummit interview over at Siliconera.
