The excitement is building as rumors of a January Nintendo Direct make the rounds on social media and forums. Nintendo fans are eager to learn what games will be gracing their consoles this year, leaving some people ample room to stir up mischief.

A number of false Nintendo Twitter accounts have popped up in recent days with “announcements” for Nintendo Directs. The convincing wording and images in the tweets is tricking fans into a quick retweet, but a few seconds’ worth of examination reveals misspelled Twitter handles and the lack of the all-telling blue tick that denotes official accounts.

We’re all eager to see the next Nintendo Direct, but a good fan knows to practice patience and allow creators and companies to make announcements when they’re ready. Half of the fun is the anticipation, after all!
