Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct had quite a lot packed into it. From new controllers to play the online NES games with to some exciting new details. It might be safe to say that there was a surprising amount of third party support for Nintendo’s newest platform, and at the front of that pack was Square-Enix. They confirmed 9 (technically 10) games coming to Switch! We have a full list of the games Square announced below.
  • The World Ends With You: Final Remix (October 12)
  • Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered (2019)
  • Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD (Out now! And it’s 40% off on the eShop.)
  • World of Final Fantasy Maxima (November 6)
  • Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Everybuddy! (Late this year, early next)
  • Final Fantasy VII (2019)
  • Final Fantasy IX (2019)
  • Final Fantasy X/X-2 (technically two games, 20109)
  • Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (2019)

Ho boy that is a -lot- of Final Fantasy. Suspiciously, the list is missing Final Fantasy VIII from that list, as well as the original six games. I think it can be expected that sometime in the future, we’ll get another wave of games later, including a port of all the XIII titles, maybe! Considering how long it’s been since Nintendo and Final Fantasy have been synonymous, it’s exciting to see Square-Enix bringing a hefty chunk of the back-catalog over. Hopefully the two companies being buddy-buddy means we’ll see a Super Mario RPG 2? Maybe?
