Six more classic titles announced for Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch Online just got even better with the announcement that six more classic titles are coming to the platform in early December. Four of the titles are Super NES games, while the remaining two are for the NES collection. The full list is as follows:

  • Star Fox 2 (SNES)
  • Super Punch-Out!! (SNES)
  • Kirby Super Star (SNES)
  • Breath of Fire II (SNES)
  • Journey to Silius (NES)
  • Crystalis (NES)

Of particular interest to fans of The Legend of Zelda, Crystalis is a game in a similar vein to Nintendo’s illustrious series. A top-down, classic action/RPG produced by developer SNK, Crystalis takes place in a post-apocalyptic land where survivors and descendants of a thermonuclear war have traded the ways of science for the art of magic. In order to protect the world from a would-be tyrant, the player must utilize powerful swords, armor, and magical items to journey across the land and conquer dangerous dungeons. While that may sound familiar to Zelda fans, Crystalis puts its own spin on the genre with plenty of unique and interesting mechanics and design choices that have helped it to become a cult classic over the decades.

Leading the pack for Super Nintendo is Star Fox 2. This title was a cancelled, nearly mythical game for close to 20 years before being released in September of 2017 as part of the Super NES Classic Edition console. The game was nearly completely finished at the time of its cancellation and parts of its design were reworked into Star Fox 64, although various aspects never resurfaced until the Super NES Classic release. It’s great that Nintendo is giving a chance to play this legendary title to gamers who may not have been able to pick up that miniature console.

These six titles will be released for all Nintendo Switch Online membership holders on December 12, 2019.
