The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has taken out the prestigious Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2017. It also won awards for Best Action/Adventure Game, and Best Game Direction.

Breath of the Wild beat out Horizon Zero Dawn, Super Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, and PUBG to win the ultimate accolade. The award was decided by vote, with major gaming outlets and the public voting for their favorite game.

Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma took to the stage with Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, both clearly elated by the win.

“On behalf of everyone who worked on this game, thank you so very much for this award,” Aonuma said. “And congratulations as well to all of the other nominated games.”

Fujibayashi was almost too overcome to speak as he also thanked everyone. “I’m really happy that I ended up making games!” He described making Breath of the Wild as being a “big adventure”.

“I want to take all of the joy and warmth I’m feeling right now receiving this award and put that back into Zelda games,” added Aonuma.

It was a big night for Breath of the Wild, with series producer Eiji Aonuma earlier revealing the trailer for DLC Pack 2, “The Champions Ballad”, and announcing that the DLC will be available tonight. We’re hoping it goes live at any minute now!
