A Link to the Past inspires upcoming indie game Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King

Described as a “delightful mix of Zelda and Princess Bride,” Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is an Action-RPG filled with dungeons, puzzles, boss fights and chiptunes. The game is narrated by Grandpa, with the help of his granddaughter Lily. The story begins when our hero, who also happens to be named Lily, joins the Royal Knights of the Rose. On that very day, the evil wizard Crocus casts a spell on the King, sending him into an endless slumber, thus beginning Lily’s journey to save the kingdom.

Blossom Tales was heavily inspired by The Legend of Zelda. The game takes on on a top-down approach, includes the famous spinning sword attack, and even has a talking owl! However, with original characters, a dynamic story, and a variety of worlds, it’s very much its own game.

Castle Pixel, the game’s development team who also produced the well-received Rex Rocket, have begun a Kickstarter campaign to help Blossom Tales take off. In order to properly fund the project, Castle Pixel hopes to raise $45,000. Backing the project comes with some pretty neat incentives. Pledging just $10 gets you a digital copy of the game, and at the $30 level the game will have a zombie named after you. If you’re feeling particularly generous and pledge $200, your very own NPC will be included in the game. The campaign expires on Friday, October 17.
