During the presentation of Super Smash Bros. 3DS in the Nintendo Digital Event, series director Masahiro Sakurai announced that the game will release on October 3. He described the game as “almost complete”.
He adds that “there are an astronomical number of variables in a game like this. We have to be sure to put enough people on the debug team and test it correctly”.
While he says he won’t into full detail on all the new elements of the game, he did tease some new game modes. One of these appears to be named “Flower Smash”.
You can see Smash 3DS announcements in the video below, starting at 7:00.
Eagle-eyed viewers will also have noticed some new Zelda-themed collectible trophies. The most blatant one of these is the close-up of Twinrova, but if you look in the pan shot of laid-out trophies that appears shortly after, you can spot some more familiar faces.
Spirit Tracks Link, a Phantom, Midna, Toon Link, Princess Zelda, Link on Epona, Sheik, regular Link and of course, the Saria trophy that was first revealed earlier this year. While I can’t be certain, it also looks like there’s a Stalfos on the upper left, as the camera pans back.
