ZeldaVR, a project spearheaded by developer Ubiquitron to re-create the world of The Legend of Zelda for the Oculus Rift VR in 3D virtual reality has come to fruition, allowing gamers who own the Oculus Rift platform the opportunity to play the original Zelda title in its 8-bit glory in first-person. Currently, a beta has just been released that includes the very first dungeon of the game and the entire overworld to explore. A full release of the title is slated free of charge on virtualreality.io in March 2014.

Isn’t this sorta illegal? Did they get the copyrights permission?

Half spliced, the NES rights died out WAAAY back, The Legend of Zelda as a franchise is still copyrighted, that specific game, no. But because of the name, Nintendo could easily shut this down if they wanted to.

k, so I wasn’t to sure how 8 bit would look or even work in VR 3D, but that’s actually not bad. makes me think it would look cool to see something like OoT on this thing someday. tho perhaps not until some years from now when this technology is improved. not nessesarily to the SAO level, but perhaps somewhere alittle bit more midway between that and this.

That actually looks kind of fun..
