When it comes to choosing the title of an article, the most important rule is to ensure that it conveys as much of the article’s subject as possible. Sometimes, a writer needs to discuss cutting-edge cognitive neuroscience. That’s not an easy thing to sum up in just a few words. On other occasions, a Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player does something crazy, and the writer’s job is as easy as pie. And since doing crazy stuff in Breath of the Wild is something of a tradition at this point, you can pretty much count on us to cut to the chase and show you the goods.
Imagine. You’re a Guardian patrolling Hyrule Castle seeking out roaming do-gooders, just as you’ve been doing for a century. It’s another dull night, but you’re a robot, you do what you told, and if there’s anything resembling sentience going on inside you, you’re probably satisfied with your lot in life.
Along comes this jerk, shirtless and cocksure, shooting an arrow clear across the kingdom to mess you up forevermore.
The player responsible for this latest act of jaw-dropping carnage is YukinoSan, a Japanese fan with a clear penchant for destruction at any cost. The arrow is fired from Breath of the Wild’s Great Plateau, and it strikes a Guardian that’s not only 2.6 kilometers away, but it’s even moving at the time of impact.
Pivotal to YukinoSan’s success is the usage of a recently discovered glitch that lets Link fly behind the arrow. But don’t take this to mean that their act of lunacy is cheapened in any way — the glitch is only necessary because if the arrow disappears from the player’s view, it essentially blips out of existence, meaning that it’s mandatory to keep an eye on the doom-bringing projectile for the entirety of its journey.
If you’re curious what the flying glitch is called, and who wouldn’t be, it’s BLSS. That stands for Bow Lift Smuggling Slide. And that sounds like something that Ring Fit Adventure would throw at me on a lazy Sunday morning just to make damn well certain I feel the burn.
