Yet another Breath of the Wild glitch discovery makes speedrunning history

Have you ever wanted to see Link fly? And no, we’re not talking about The Wind Waker’s barrel catapult shenanigans. Well, now you really can. Recently, the Zelda speedrunning community discovered a brand new glitch in Breath of the Wild that could be invaluable to setting new records soon.

The glitch, known as “BLS Slide” for the time being, is the nickname for “bow lift smuggle sliding.” In short, the trick capitalizes on the mechanics of canceling the aim of the bow and climbing on a ledge to send Link into a perpetually falling state.

And voila, there you go. It makes Link fly.

Because BLS Slide sets Link into a “falling mode” that prevents him from descending to the ground, he is not affected by stamina or gravity. This is a game-changer for setting new records, as speedy gamers can shed many minutes and even a couple of hours’ time navigating the overworld map in several run categories. The trick has the potential to open up new categories. So far, credit for the groundbreaking discovery goes to the glitch hunter and speedrunner LegendofLinkk. According to LegendofLinkk, BLS Slide can be performed as follows:

  1. Pause, unpause, aim your bow and press B to cancel.
  2. Walk up to a ledge to climb. Hold down B and climb up.
  3. Let go of the control stick or stop holding B, and Link will “fall,” or start to fly.

You can see the concept of the glitch in action below, with a bomb and a shield as substitute. As always, proceed with caution and save first before you try this at home!
