Nintendo Germany GM claims Super Smash Bros. 4 will release “next Spring” (Updated!)

Super Smash Bros Wii U 3DS

German website neckar-chronik.de held a recent interview with Nintendo of Germany General Manager Bernd Fakesch, wherein he revealed something very interesting for Nintendo fans. Allegedly, the upcoming Super Smash Bros. instalment for Wii U and 3DS and Mario Kart 8 are due out for Spring 2014.

“For next spring two more big license games are also announced for our TV console with Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.”

This is to be taken with a grain of salt, of course. While it’s possible that Fakesch may very well know things that we don’t, this is a casual snippet of an interview; not an official Nintendo announcement. He could be just estimating–or has he perhaps let something slip?

Update: As appears to be the case for most rumours like this one, it has swiftly been proven false. Nintendo told IGN:

“There seems to be some buzz online today about the launch date of Super Smash Bros. We would like to clarify that the speculation about a Spring 2014 launch date for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U was the result of a misquotation in an interview. The original article has since been rectified and we have no further announcements to make at this time.”
