Gaming is fun. It always has been. Simple enough, right?

But wouldn’t it be so much better if you could give while you game?

That’s the idea behind gaming marathons – and at Zelda Universe we tend to report on them often. After all, they are Zelda-centric and are always for great causes.

Another upcoming Zelda marathon coming to an internet connection near you is the next “Zeldathon,” a series of Zelda marathons organized by teens from Meadville, Pennsylvania (which, by the way, totally exists, apparently). The group has seen their fair share of successful marathons; their most recent, back in June, raised $3,300 for the American Cancer Society. With their next marathon, they are going to attempt to beat out old efforts by having higher quality broadcasts of the players and by having – what else? – a longer marathon.

For more info regarding Zeldathon and to learn how you can donate, hit the jump.

This new marathon will be for the purpose of raising thousands for the American Diabetes Association, and for Matthew Moffit, the Marathon Director, this is a very dear issue. In the Zeldathon press release, Moffit states:

“Both my father and grandfather passed away due to complications of diabetes. It is my hope that through this event, we can not only have lots of fun with our audience, but raise a great deal of money to help fund diabetes research as well.”

Moving words, Matthew. The marathon starts on December 27th, and if you want to donate, please visit

Pumped yet? How about a promo video?

  • Hero of Winds

  • Purple Link

I wish I could watch it, but I'm gonna be in South Africa at that time. D= Sorry.

    • Deffpoised

Haha I'm also going to be there at that time. Kewl.

  • Sorry about your father, Matthew.

I wish you guys well on the gaming marathon and hope you make more than expected.

    • tnmcproductions

Tthank's so much Thareous! Hopefully you can stop in and perhaps even make a donation!

  • ChainofTermina

Half of my family has diabetes. My Grandfather died from it, my aunt has it, my cousin has it, my other cousin has it….hell, even my cousin's DOG had it. no joke. so I think this is a really good cause. well, all charities are good causes, but, you know what mean.

  • Darknut

Whoever the sick misanthrope who keeps voting these people down is, Stop It. They're just on here to support this marathon, and you ambivalent douchebag had better leave them alone. Oh wait, what's your problem? Do you have diabetes? Did you have someone who died from it? Well, if so, I'm sorry, but I am NOT sorry for showing you up.

    • anonymouse

HAHAHA its me (and prob other ppl) whos voting down. I do it cuz I posted something good, and it got 7 thumbs down.
      so PAYBACK hahaha

      • Querulous

        Oh, wah.

It's just good as it will appear in the eye of the beholder, kid. But you don't care, considering you don't "care" that you've joined the ranks of a troll. Still, you can dissent back into our lines if you promise, no determine, no, *choose* to behave.

        • Callinyaout

          Shut up, Querulous.

OF, if that's you, then hear this. You got -7 because you boasted about getting up to 53p. In truth, it doesn't take that many points to reach that amount, so really you don't have bragging rights. And when you brag like that, people get annoyed and are liable to "put you back in your place." Mark, I'm spelling this out, not criticizing or rebuking you. We just come on here to have discussions, not have reputation wars. So, there you have, and please don't be offended, I meant no harm.

Actually, Oddish is one of my team members. His real name is Zak Ondish, but last marathon, the chatroom got his name confused for the Pokemon and that nickname stuck!

    • tnmcproductions

Actually Oddish is the nickname of one of our team members!

      • Oh…my bad! I had no idea!

And to answer you above, you're most certainly welcome. Unfortunately I'm a little short on cash right now, but when I do get some I'll donate. Anything for worthy cause, and Zelda!

Also…you are Matthew, right? If so, pleased to make your acquaintance!

        • tnmcproductions

I am indeed Matthew! I am known as MC Gamer though mostly here on the internet. Whatever you can do is fine! Even just showing up and spreading the word is enough!

          • Absolutely, man! You guys keep at it, enjoy it, and have my best wishes.

            Again, pleasure meeting you.

    • QueenxLink

      Ok so its Pokemon now?

  • SlashmanSG

That's kinda weird. I am diabetic, and my bday's on Dec. 27th.

  • tnmcproductions

About that. Last time unfortunately out of my control the chat mods got out of line, began making their own rules, banning who they wanted and generally getting way out of line. It was considered the second worst thing of the marathon (first being untrained players, which is now fixed!) and I apologize greatly for that.

No worries, I have ensured anyone guilty of "treason" last time has been eradicated and we will ensure this time the chatroom is fun and wonderful. You will only get kicked/banned if you break the rules I set this time around. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Children in Sierra Leone need more help…

    • tnmcproductions

Believe me, we know! We plan on doing an international cause for out summer marathon! But hey, diabetics need help too! As long as you are making a step, it's making a step in the right direction.

  • Revthemoronoftime

I love it when there's Zelda marathons to help people :'D Like when they did the Autism one, because my brothers autistic and I love Zelda xP

I hope it goes really well for them~

  • Millisar

This is kind of nice. I really hope they can find someway to help us diabetics. Having family die from it and showing you that you may end up in the same position is scary.

  • tnmcproductions

This was a mistake on ym part. I made a few p[eople mods who in reality shoudn
't have been. They took an iron grip on the chat against my will.

It was the second worst thing of the last marathon.

Luckily, I corrected this for this marathon. I am very sorry about this again, hope to see you there!

    • anonymouse

Thnx for understanding. that encourages me to come ๐Ÿ™‚

  • QueenxLink

Aww that's sweet! Well now we can say that gaming IS good for you! ๐Ÿ˜€ And others, in this case.

  • Zeke
